As 2019 comes to a close, I have been thinking a lot about my priorities, and how those align with what I consume. Admittedly, I have been guilty of spending countless hours watching “Beauty Influencers” on YouTube, and scanning pages endlessly for big makeup brand product reviews. Lately, every time I watch another beauty channel, I feel a bit more sick to my stomach.
Where did my thinking go wrong? When did I get so wrapped up in makeup tutorials and videos and NEEDING to have that latest lipstick, palette, foundation, you name it?!
Not once, has a purchase of yet another beauty product increased my happiness. Nor has it satiated my desire for more.
You know what would give me a little more happiness and hope though? If those big name beauty industry leaders: Kylie Cosmetics, Benefit, Nars, Too Faced, Makeup Geek, Tati, Huda Beauty, Natasha Denona, Charlotte Tilbury, Estee Lauder, Clinique (just to name a few); if they, instead of sending PR to influencers, sent it to woman who could REALLY USE IT. Say they sent it to a woman’s shelter, and those women reviewed the products; instead of the same tired faces we see reviewing PR box after PR box (while laughing all the way to the bank)?
Or what if the influencers themselves did the same, and sent the extreme excess of products to women that could benefit from this makeup, instead of making these “influencers” multi-millionaires?
Just a thought as we start a brand new decade with 2020.
